Reading after college is a lot more fun when it’s for pleasure, but we all know what attending book club really means….getting together with your girlfriends and having an excuse to enjoy some wine and chat! Hosting a wine and cheese party is a great late afternoon or evening plan for a simple weekly get together, bridal shower, or to watch your favorite Shonda Rhimes show.
I recently hosted a Sunday afternoon get together with some friends and fellow Atlanta creatives. Thanks to Trader Joes, it was a quick trip to the grocery store, and it didn’t break the bank.
Putting together a cheese plate is one of my favorite pastimes. Here are the combinations I always make sure to include on my spread:
Blue cheese, ideally Roquefort, with honey
Brie with apricot jam
Manchego with figs
Additional foods I always try to add to my spread, especially if wanting a charcuterie plate, include:
Trader Joes offers a wonderful cheese selection, including the easily sliceable brie square. This made it so easy for guests to place a piece on a cracker with some jam or a granny smith apple slice.
Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Cake was a must to add to this Fall party. This sweet cake is a great combo with the saltiness of the cheeses selected for the event.
As for the wine, I offered an Italian red and white. Trader Joes offers an affordable selection on wine, including $20 bottles of Brunello. If you are looking for something less expensive, a Sangiovese or Chinti is a nice bold dry wine option. For white wine, I personally stick with a Pinot Grigio from the Tuscany region for its dry and fruity flavor.
